How do I take care of my ROOF helmet?
We take every care to provide you with high-quality helmets that offer a high level of protection. Once you have your helmet, always make sure it continues to provide you with that protection.
Important !
For safe cleaning, never use hydrocarbon alcohol or solvent as well as products to clean windows, clean only your helmet with warm water and mild soap. Do not apply any varnish or adhesive.
Simple, day-to-day maintenance!
#Use
It is advisable to store the helmet in its special fabric bag between uses, ensuring first that the interior is dry. Do not store the helmet near a source of heat or UV radiation, in a damp place, or where there are significant temperature fluctuations, as this may affect the quality of the paintwork, the shock-absorption system or the interior lining.
Specifically for models in the BOXER V8 and V8S ranges: to optimise performance and ensure a tight seal between the visor and the chin guard, it is advisable to store the helmet with the visor closed and the chin guard locked in place, so that the foam padding is properly positioned.
#Single-impact rule
Your helmet is designed to absorb a single impact: the outer shell distributes the force of the impact across the entire surface of the helmet. The shock-absorbing padding in ROOF helmets consists of several shock absorbers of varying densities, designed to provide the best possible protection for each area of the head. This layer of padding is significantly compromised during and after an impact, but the damage it sustains may not be visible as it is sandwiched between the shell and the comfort padding.
If your helmet has been dropped, we recommend replacing it with a new one to ensure you have effective protection. Impacts can cause internal changes that are not necessarily visible to the naked eye.
It is also for this reason that we advise against reusing a second-hand helmet. A crack, damaged inner lining or a helmet that is too old cannot, under any circumstances, guarantee your safety. We urge you to prioritise your safety and replace your old helmet with a new one.
#Cleaning
Cleaning your helmet properly will help to maintain its quality.
To clean the outside of your helmet, use soapy water and a soft cloth.
To clean the inner lining:
- Remove the various parts of the lining (if the helmet has a removable lining)
- Hand-wash the fabric and foam padding using soapy water
- Rinse lightly with clean water
- Then leave to dry
- Reassemble the lining following the instructions in your helmet’s user manual
